Kenmore dishwasher : Limp soap door

8 posts in this topic

I have a 5 year old kenmoor dishwasher. The soap cup opens but does not spring back. It looks like the spring is out of place. I tried taking the little door off and changing the spring position but no luck

Trying to fix it, I actually broke the little plastic rod that the soap door snaps onto and had to get a new one. I ordered a new spring at the same time but I still can't get the little door to spring to attention. Its just very limp and sad.

I guess I should have taken a physics class!

Go to www.sears.com and put in your model number and look at the break down in the door section to see what parts go to the soap door, or see if you can do that here on this site, make a note of all of the part numbers, and then order them here.  In the mean time jog to the store and get you some of those D/W soap tabs that you just throw into the dishwasher tub and turn her on.  No biggie with this malfunction.  Lots of people do this because their soap disp is broken and gets them by till can get it fixed.  We have a brand new W/P Gold Tall Tub that I just throw those tab into the tub because is lots easier than messing with the soap thingie.......they work just as good as dispensing soap the real way..

No luck with Sears.com on the model number.  Also, those tablets aren't available in our area.  Only tablets that you place in the cup.  I may have to call someone to come fix it.

Sorry about the lack of model number. The number is: 665.15632

Also, I did order new replacement parts already as I had busted the plastic dowel that the door snaps on to. In additon to the dowel, I ordered a new spring and door. basically, I don't know how to install it because I can't get the spring make the door springy.

I'm selling my house and would like to have this fixed but would not be a happy camper if I have to pay $100 for a service call for a stupid spring thingy.

those springs are truly an exercise in futility even for the most seasoned techs- don't feel bad, just look carefully at the spring and try and see in your minds eye how it must wind up and the 2 sharp ends of the springhold the door up,while the flat loop in the middle rests on the bump above the cup-i have found some luck with first winding the spring while holding the square shaped part with a finger-then using my trusty pocket terminal driver, hold both ends of the spring, and at the same time, guiding the pin into the notches in the door. you need about 6 hands for this operation,a dreaded task to put it simply- definitely have a 24 on ice to celebrate the completion of this ditty!!   take a deep breath, hold your tounge right and above all, have patience and don't give up  :P
