All Appliantology tech members are invited to join in this workshop on all things Appliantological.
We have a special session planned for this one. Instead of the usual Show 'n Tell on a technical topic, we're going to post tech sheets in the comments to this Calendar Event (scroll down to see what's posted so far) and ask specific questions that can only be answered by reading the tech sheet. If you at least try to answer the questions beforehand, you'll get a lot more out of it. The tech sheet and the questions are posted in the comments section below.
Your mission, if you should choose to accept it, is to check out the questions for each one and try to answer them ahead of time. Then come to the Dojo to see how well you did!
Who: This workshop is only available to tech members at Appliantology.
When: Saturday, April 27 @10:00 AM Eastern Time.
      Where: Online via Zoom
      How:
Click here to go to the forum topic with the registration link. If you're interested, register now. Arrive a couple minutes early to make sure your connection is working. Set a reminder for yourself for this workshop so you don’t miss it.  And check out past workshops here: https://appliantology.org/announcement/33-webinar-recordings-index-page/

Amana LWA10AW top load washer doesn't agitate but spins for rinse cycle

My washer will fill with water, then dead silence when it should be agitating.  The tub will drain and spin the clothes dry for the rinse cycle, fill up for the rinse. Then more dead silence when it should be agitating.  The timer appears to be working because it's moving through each cycle. When I lift the lid the spinning stops so I guess the lid switch works.  The motor works because the tub spins for the rinse. I don't get the dead silence part?  If something was wrong with the transmission parts shouldn't I hear something?  What should I check. Please recommend a fix. Thanks for your help!

Just because the timer is advancing doesn't mean it isn't the problem!

Most likely have had agitate contacts in timer - replace timer.

The timer has three modes, regular, delicates and permanent press.  It doesn't agitate in any mode. Are the same contacts used in each mode?

Need to see the schematic and timer chart to answer this. Do you have the tech sheet for this washer? If so, upload a scan to your Google Drive and post the link here so we can take a look.

I would have to see the timer chart to tell you for sure but for the most part, YES, they can all use the same contact for agitate and but may have another contact to run the motor at a different speed when delicate or permanent press is used.

The washer is 18 years old. The more we thought about it we decided to buy a new one. The timer was an expensive part why take a chance something else going as well. Thanks for your time!
