All Appliantology tech members are invited to join in this workshop on all things Appliantological.
We have a special session planned for this one. Instead of the usual Show 'n Tell on a technical topic, we're going to post tech sheets in the comments to this Calendar Event (scroll down to see what's posted so far) and ask specific questions that can only be answered by reading the tech sheet. If you at least try to answer the questions beforehand, you'll get a lot more out of it. The tech sheet and the questions are posted in the comments section below.
Your mission, if you should choose to accept it, is to check out the questions for each one and try to answer them ahead of time. Then come to the Dojo to see how well you did!
Who: This workshop is only available to tech members at Appliantology.
When: Saturday, April 27 @10:00 AM Eastern Time.
      Where: Online via Zoom
      How:
Click here to go to the forum topic with the registration link. If you're interested, register now. Arrive a couple minutes early to make sure your connection is working. KitchenAid KSCS25FJSS01 leaked all way to basement

I had a friend leaving in my old house and when he moved out, the fridge got lonely and upset and decide to leak out the back, and flow down to the basement.  Crap. So I get to do some sheerock this weekend. :(

I have checked the water supply box and the valve is fine and the connection appears solid and leak-free.  The rear panel has a water stain but I can't seem to find the source.  I can see some green corrosion on one of a copper pipe coming from the compressor and it looks like it water could have come down the pipe that contains two plastic supply lines heading up the inside the back of the fridge for the icemaker / water dispenser.

Looking at the water stain on the lower panel, it looks like the water came down and was literally 'hit the fan" and tossed water all around, but in a pattern aligned with the fans spinning axis.   Lovely. :(

Also, water dispenser stopped working a few years back, but I never fixed it since the kitchen sink is right next to it. I may as well fix that as well while I'm there.

Other than that, the fridge had been rock solid reliable for the last 15 years, so I hate to toss it out and buy new.

Thanks,

Ron

Sounds like you have a frozen ice maker fill tube- or frozen filter head. When the ice maker calls for water it is opening the water valve, but when the water has no outlet, the pressure is forcing it to leak. If the unit is in a hard water area, you will probably have to replace the water valve to stop seepage on the off cycle caused by sediment residue on the valve seat... The best plan would be to unplug it for a few days to be sure all ice has melted (since there is probably no food in it, with no resident), then replace the valve, I am guessing this will fix your issue. While you are at it, clean the condenser coil, as it likely needs attention at the 15 year mark!  Part number: 2199838

Cool. I'm happy to buy a new valve.  Will that also address the no water when you press the water dispenser lever.

Also, I could not open the link you provided with MSFT IE (it worked with chrome), I got a:

Response Error (invalid_response)

Server's response could not be processed. Invalid characters/Missing colon in header line or header name is empty
This could be caused by a malformed response, or possibly a misconfiguration.

Also, when I looked at the picture link it says it's no longer available.  Is there an alternate?

Thanks,

Ron

Well, 4 years ago I replaced the valve and no more leaks!  Thank-you Hiroshi. :)

There has been a nagging problem with the water dispenser not working.  I have removed the front panel and checked the microswitch and it works fine.   However, when I tape done the microswitch and then crawl around to the new valve, I don't see any voltage on either the red or green solenoid.

Any idea which solenoid is associated (green or red) with dispenser?

Are there any fuses between the switch and solenoid?

Thanks,

Ron
