Whirlpool side-by-side won't eject ice

9 posts in this topic

Hi,

I have a 1.5 year old Whirlpool fridge, model #ed5lhaxmq00. I bought it new and have just hooked up the icemaker, yea I know . . . :D, but the switch was off the entire time. The water through the door works, but it has only made 3 trays of ice in 2 weeks. There is ice in the tray, but the arm won't actuate. The optic senser light blinks, I guess it's working. The arm appears to be in the rest position. What can I try?

Hummm, back to the drawing board.  Now this ice maker will make aprox one tray of ice every 2 hours or so, depending on the temp in the freezer.  Needs to be around 10 degrees, is the freezer cooling ok?   What exactly are the emitter and receiver boards doing, what blink sequence do you see???  Look to see if anything in the freezer could be blocking the beam when the door is closed, which would cut power to the ice maker.  These have a problem with the fill tube freezing up but you would not have that ice in the mold, so do not suspect that is the problem.  If you can get your ice maker loose, and remove the cover you could try jumping T to H to force a harvest and see if this could jump start it.  Look to see if there is anything blocking the rake from rotating.  They are having problems with the rake jaming on the stripper also and there is an update on a fix for that.  See if you can give some more information so we can puzzle this out.  Pegi

Thanks for your persistence. The light sequence is - blink, blink, pause, blink, blink, pause, etc. I'll try the jumper tomorrow. -- Jim

Hi Pegi,

Jumping T & H did nothing.  Temp is O.K.
