Dead pump?

5 posts in this topic

*Bows and Salutes center of the appliance Dojo*...

It seems wise one...that my front loading Frigidaire washer (model FWR645RHS1) has given up the ghost...pump was making terrible noises for a bout a week..and now...will not empty the tub...

As I am a car guru..and not worthy to carry the Master's wrench in appliance land....I would ask for help in assesment of my diagnosis, and in how to proceed for repair...

I have taken the front and rear off of this, and can handle tools without TOO much injury to myself...so I would prefer to repair this myself, provided it's in my skill level.

Wisdom would be much appreciated....

open up the rubber grommet to the pump and remove the coins(probably a quarter) they tend to lay there vibrating for a while, and then take a notion to flip up and block the inlet to the pump and cut off water flow.          :D

That's a good thing to check but, be advised:  I've seen several of these pump fail, making the same brinnelling noise, without having any obstructions in the impeller.

OK.....pump is clear....but...now....motor seems to run...but impeller is not moving water...

Ensure the pump suction hose is clear thusly:

  • Add a litte water to the drum, a quart will do nicely, thank you.
  • remove the suction hose (the accordion one) from the pump.
  • If water doesn't come gushing out, remove the panties stuck inside the suction hose.

Once this is completed and the pump still won't move water, replace the pump.
