I've had a washer/dryer duet for about two years. Recently the gas dryer started giving an E1 error code and then stops. The clothes never finish drying and its really starting to be a pain. I've checked the lint trap and it looks fine. I clean it every time I use the dryer. Anybody know what is causing this?

E1 is an open thermistor.  The thermistor lives on top of the blower housing.  Get to it by removing the bottom quarter panel.  Piece of pie, comrade!

Sir-

Can you be more specific regarding the quater panel.  Does the dryer need to be taken out so you can get to the sides?  Is the housing in the front, sides or the back?  Secondly, how does it come off?

I ordered the part and want to put it in.  Thank you for your help.

The quarter panel is right there in front, down at the bottom, below the door. Look closely and you'll see two screws. Remove them and the panel comes right off. Some pics at this link:

Gracci!Roger that.Got the part lined up.Any other possibilities for an E1 fail(while I have the belly open . . .)  ?Towels are taking a long time to line-dry!We are spoiled by this machine . . .

I replaced that thermistor and it runs and runs with no probs.  Any suggestions on why it takes forever to dry a load of clothes?  It has been that way since we bought one year ago.  It takes about 85-100 minutes to dry a nrmal load of clothes (large load).  My wife and I can't stand it.

that was the first thing that I checked.  maybe it is bad in the wall.  I will have to pull it all out and do the router ruder thing.

Two year old DUET gas dryer with E1 fail.Replaced thermistor.Back to drying like when new.Other guy: <<85 minutes to dry since new????>>Definitely something more like NO HEAT . . . or cat in exhaust . . . Thanks for the E1 fail tip SENSEI  S.A.R.M.u !!OOOooosssss!

Hi there!  Just wanted to let you know that you are wonderful!  Our whirlpool duet dryer (electric) was acting up ---shutting off after only a few minutes etc.    We have 4 year old triplets plus an 8 year old so you can be sure we do a lot of laundry and having our dryer be unreliable was not a good thing.    We did a google search for whirlpool duet plus E1 (the error code we were getting) and lo and behold there was a link for the thermistor you said was the problem.

   It arrived Monday and my husband installed it that night and it is working great!  We are very thankful to you for all your help.     Very appreciative for your help.

I had a quick question, I have these same washer/dryer, recently, I moved them, basically switched it so that the doors opened opposite of each other (like it should be), now I am getting the E1 error, right after I moved them, Im thinking since the lint duct vent thing, is so stretched to still reach the hole in teh wall, it may be getting stuck and making this error, could this cause it? Or is it a definitive problem with the part mentioned above?

I had the E1 problem as well and replaced the thermistor.  Now, the dryer will start and run for a little while, but then stop with no error code.

same here, I replaced the part that everyone recommended, and it still shuts off with the same error, I was thinking maybe I have to clean the bottom part out, or maybe somethings clogging the exhuast tube thing. I read some things online and a few places said that it could be the placement and position of the exhaust tube, currently I havent done poop with it, everything takes like 5 (incomplete) dry cycles to dry now, towels take like two days! I plan on leaving the office early one of these days and moving the tube around, cleaning out the bottom part and hoping that this gets fixed, its hard being a bachelor and having a broken dryer.

Wow, an old thread...did a Google search for Duet error codes and this site came up along with this thread.

I have been at this site before working on an ice maker.

I thought that the information was valuable enough to sign-up under the large love offering button, thanks for the info, the cost of perm. membership was less than a service call.

My suggestion regarding this thermistor is that on my 2002 machine, it is black in color, and the OEM part number on it is 3976615 which my local dealer changes to OEM 8577274. I called in the part number from the link above (1181075) and they could not do anything with that number...probably an aftermarket replacement item and my local dealer only does OEM parts...no big deal.
