Hi all,

Sorry, I'm not a big do-it-yourselfer (yet), so I'll do the best to describe though I don't actually know what the problem is.

In my apartment the circuit breaker on my A/C line keeps getting tripped, and after the last time it happened my A/C compressor just wouldn't click on.

The fan runs fine blowing air around, but as soon as the timer/thermometer decides it's time to actually click on the cooling, here's what happens: I hear a click, I see the lights dim for a second (which happened normally when it was working), I get the normal-sounding deep HMMMMM sound that normally precedes the compressor (?) turning on, and I can see the heavy distortion waves on my PC CRT monitor like normal when it clicks on--but then, it just doesn't turn on. It gives up after a split second and then goes back into fan mode.

I guess that's about it. Is this something it's worthwhile to fix? Could it be something in my wiring that broke during the last circuit break and not a problem with the A/C at all? Other devices work fine on the same circuit in the apartment.

Any ideas?

Sounds like a compressor gone bad.

check you capacitor it may be swolen and open or leaky lookin. If the top looks swole up its a sure sign . and let us know about it dude

Hey,

You can ohm out your compressor to see if one of the windings are gone and you can check to see if your cantactor is pulling in the way it is suppose too.
