I was after some help with a ducted heater system. The heater is in my roof cavity and is a Brivis - Wombat Xa 92. It is approx 14 years old. The heater works but when the fan switches on, the sound coming out of the unit which resounds through the whole house is more like a generator not a heater. Its a loud humming noise when the heater is pushing air through the vents. Controller board is showing a red flashing LED labelled "fan". Fault goes away temporarily when the reset but in pressed on the controller board but comes back minutes later. Can anybody out there help ??

Given that I could work out what you mean by the "squirrel cage assembly", how could I determine if this is the problem?

I tryed to find out something about this unit . It is austrailian. and its winter time there. and it seems they dont want to help very much with service info. I am in the southern united states. I did find a brivis pty ltd website but is wasnt much help it did say that its a forced air downdraft ducted heater. inside the heater is either a blower motor with a propeller or a blower wheel these will come litterally apart ,you should get a tech if you feel you cant access the motor

Hi Samuri,
I guess this guy has licked his problem, or else is putting up with the noise for 2 years now.
There are some fantastic brews in the south island of N.Z.
Meanwhile I am in OZ and also have the wombat.
Mine is also faulty, but it's the controller.
Being a little experienced, I found a dry joint and fixed it, But there must be more to it.
Being short of time, and worn out from my cold wife's complaining have decided to procure a replacement controller.
If you can offer any advice, better email me soon.
I will try to buy one tomorrow and post details.
Long live the DIY appliance repair forums!
