The dryer will reach end of cycle with the chime activated but unit will fail to shut down after finally reaching the off position.

I've physically turned the dial to all the other off positions and still the dryer continues to run.  Heating is running, drum running.  System will stop when the door is open.

I think it will be mostly the motor/timer assembly.  The only other thing that may be defective is the moisture monitor PCB but to me it seems unlikely.

Just need someone to confirm this.

So you're saying the dryer motor will continue running even with the timer in the off position?  If yes, then check for timer's #1 contact set fused together:  with timer set to the off position (dryer unplugged!) check for continuity from the gray-wire terminal to the yellow-wire terminal.  Remove one of those wires before measuring so that you don't read back through the circuit.  If you read continuity, the timer #1 contact set is welded shut and you need a new timer.

Yes.  That is exactly right.  I will go ahead and perform the test as indicated and let you know.

I was also thinking along the same lines.  Maybe the contacts inside got stuck or "fused" as you stated.  Once this proves positive, I will replace the timer assembly.

As promised, here is the final update.  I replaced the timer and that resolved the problem.

I went ahead and disassembled the original timer assembly to provide failure analysis.  It turns out the the contacts are not fused together.  Rather, it turns out that the spring action of the contact arm that connects the grey and yellow external wires failed.  So the #1 contact lever arm did not return back to it's "home" position.   Failure is due to stress hardening of the copper metal like bending a paper clip many times (causing necking of the metal) at the same point to cause it to snap.  I tested the other lever contact arms and they seem to be fine, they returned to the original position.  Therefore the old timer assembly unit is history.  I will keep the motor section in case the new timer motors fails some time in the future.
