I received my new fan motor today. I removed the fan from the compressor.
How do I remove the fan blades from the motor itself? I removed a small screw which I thought would enable me to pull the blades off but it's not moving at all. It's a little rusty too.

Jerome, on page 2 of hvac applianceman1800 has some advice on this subject. Also, I've had some success spraying wd-40 and letting it soak overnight. Another trick I've used is to take a small(propane) torch and LIGHTLY heat the blade and while it's warm squirt oil or wd-40 on it. Be warned though, this produces a lot of smoke and if you have got it to hot the oil or wd-40 can catch fire. And remember the word LIGHTLY. You can burn your blade up.

Polish the shaft with sand cloth above and below the blade hub. Remove the set screw. spray it with WD40 then slide a pipe over the shaft and hammer the hub down a little. Now Polish where the hub was. A little more WD and it'll slide off like butter

Good idea on the pipe trick. I use a puller to remove fan blade. I found it worthwile to invest in a good one since I use it often, but there are basic pullers available to do the trick. I used to cut the shaft off with a hacksaw and use a punch to tap the shaft the rest of the way through insted of getting the rusted end back through.
Make sure you use a punch and not a hammer, which will mushroom the shaft.
