Ah ha now I see your point. The piece that broke off is connected to the sider arm.

Hello Grand Master Funk and thank you for your reply. The piece that snapped off looks like the area circled in red in the attached photo. I would guess that this means the rear drum w/bearing needs to be replaced as a unit. Not something that could be crazy gluded.

Thanks, that's what I feel it is. So to recap so I don't have to spend too much. Detergent door is closed, pull out wash selector knob, door lock light comes on but nothing happens. I can open the door when the lock light is on, so I would guess that the washer is not activated because of a bad switch. Humor me here, the part is $70.00 money is tight so I want to be reasonably sure it is the switch.
