Replaced motor/controller part# Part number: 12002039
So, I'm not sure how I went so wrong, but it was not a cheap lesson.
What I did learn;
The "Basic Motor Function Test" did not seem to apply to the updated motor/controller, because (1) the motor and tub would spin continuously at 50 rpm with the j4 connector unplugged, indicating the problem lies outside the drive system, and (2) there is no way to check the phase operation on the updated motor/controller.
The failed motor made a higher pitched whine even in the tumble cycle than the new motor.
The original motor/controller lasted about 15yrs I think. The "updated" replacement motor lasted 6 months, with a 90 day warranty from Whirlpool. How is that better?
Since Jan. 2014,
2 ea. 12002039 motor/controller kits
1 ea. 22002989 machine control board (not needed)
1 ea. 12002535 wax motor (not needed)
Many hours of labor and hundreds of curse words.
This will take many beers to get over.
