this washer has a drive coupling,it is located between the motor and transmission. It is a common problem with these machines.when it breaks, the motor will run but it will not agitate or spin. there is a video on applianceaid.com explaining this. I don't know how to link it here.your washer is referred to as a whirlpool direct drive.
when it filled did it pump out the water?

just locate the buzzer and disconnect it or cut the wires to it. unplug first

some ge dryers were manufactured by frigidaire. yours is. to lift the top you must release the 2 spring clips located in the seam between the top and front panel. just use a putty knife to depress them and the top will lift up.
if you are going to remove the front panel you will see two screws on the inside of the front panel near the top. remove these screws and disconnect wires from door switch.

In Topic: Kenmore dryer 417 drum won't turn

01 February 2011 - 05:06 PM

one possibility is that the drum shaft has broken which could make the drum bounce around. you will have to remove the drum to inspect this. this dryer is a frigidaire with the westinghouse design. probably, if necessary you could go to youtube and find a video that will show you how to dismantle this dryer. but it is a simple dryer to take apart.

I agree with RegUS. the timer bypass contacts are probably fuse also, making it agitate and fill at the same time
