I've been selling appliances for a good 6 years now. When I started selling I was as naive as the customers I dealt with.
I took sales blurbs seriously.
I took things like "AccuTemp" at face value.
I thought "Yeah they're a good name, this appliance must be good"
I was wrong.
A Sears service tech who has been at the game for about 30 years handed me some tools and told me to investigate some machines on the floor.
I became ravenous. I needed more information. I needed to take apart everything and anything appliance related. I needed to see dead appliances and find out why they died. I walked around with a mult-driver in my pocket
dissassembling anything. I begged and pleaded with management to bring in new floor models as "They would sell really well" only so I could take them apart.
I read service manuals while on the can.
I'm very opinionated when it comes to appliances now. I had to leave my former employer as they did not agree with me ripping apart machines for customers showing them why say an LG front loader had a better design under the hood than a G.E.
They did not agree with me when I pulled the rotor and stator from a direct-drive frontload and demanded my coworkers worship it. (Okay, worship isnt exactly the word..)
I found an employer who doesn't mind when I call the G.E. laundry section "The wall of shame". My current employer supplied me with tools and encourages tearing down appliances on the sales floor as long as it's educational.
