I wondered about that.  So, that means the thermostat remains closed long enough to bypass the power disconnect divot (thingy:) on the axle once.  It also means the tray gets filled twice.  Seems a rather inefficient design.

Thanks.  I've studied the circuitry and mechanics enough now to know 9 o clock is correct but I still picture the new batch of ice coming to rest on top of the ejector after the cycle

Well, after finally getting to see symptoms, the water does appear to be over filling the ice maker.  While the valve was not dripping at the time, I replaced it anyway since I had no other path to take.  Customer reports problem solved.  I'm still a little puzzled at the 9 o clock position though.  I appreciate everyones input in trying to help through this one.

Have you actually seen this sheet of ice?

You've already been back out once for a phantom complaint, cycled the ice maker and it worked perfectly. Are we dealing with a broken customer here?

I have not seen the ice but I told him to leave it as is this time.  Since no one seems to have any magic on this one, I will likely return this evening and install a water valve.  I don't see how it can work when I'm there and not when I'm not.  I still think the 9 o clock home position seems weird but that must be right.  I guess it could be the thermostat is not opening quickly enough

No I did not replace the valve because it turned on and off properly when I initiated the cycle. What would I check for on the waterline? It's there and looks normal. I may just replace the valve because it seems the only thing to try. Does the 9oclock home position sound correct
