Kenmore Dryer 110.66914690 works then quits then works after resting

30 November 2011 - 12:53 PM

I have the dryer listed in the title. About 15 years old. Just replaced the fuse and thermal sensor at the heating element (fuse blew). When I replaced them, I cleaned out about 20 lbs of lint from everywhere.

The dryer works well for a while - 1 or 2 loads. Then will quit mid load. The timer is still working (clicking away) but when I press the start button, all I get is a click. The motor doesn't start up. It clicks off when the door opens, then will just "click" again when I press start.

If I let the dryer rest (cool down) for an hour or two, it will start up again.

I took the whole thing apart. I tested the fuse and thermal cutoff at the heating element, the heating element, the fuse and sensor at the blower unit, the timer motor, the start switch, the motor and the door switch. They all have continuity. From what I can tell, they seem to be ok. I can't guarantee that, tho, as I'm not exactly sure what I'm looking for on the multimeter except for the continuity part. I don't think it's anything with the power source. Fuse at the breaker doesn't blow.

My guess is that it has something to do with the motor, but I'm not sure.

Any ideas?
