Maytag MDG6000BWW Gas Dryer making funny sound, overheating

10 March 2012 - 03:33 PM

I have a Maytag MDG6000BWW gas dryer. It is making a scratching noise when it runs. Sounds like something is rubbing. If I run it too long it starts to smell like something is burning and will shut off. It appears to be overheating. Once it shuts off it will not start again. When I push the start button is just groans but will not tumble or kick on. If I wait an hour or so it starts up just fine.

Do you think the motors going or could it be belt or pulley that's putting undue stress on the motor and causing it to overheat?

I had the drum glides replaced last summer (7/2011).
