Gas Kenmore HE3 Motor Won't Run

15 September 2013 - 12:50 PM

Model #110.92822101

As of yesterday, my early (eleven years old) HE3 gas dryer won't run - I can hear the motor hum but it won't actually start. Drum can be manually turned but doesn't spin freely, there is some resistance. The diagnostics for Hold to Start flash between 88 and 02 in the display, with the LEDs flashing as well. Lint trap clear, all the basics checked.

I've previously replaced thermistors myself several times, and the door handle, but after watching the motor replacement video I don't think I want to tackle completely disassembling the dryer. Especially since it's stacked and it's just me and my daughter these days

Given the dryer's age - and the fact that its partner HE3t washer is well-worn. noisier and seems to take longer to balance for final spins - is it advisable to invest in a repair of the dryer? Besides the labor-intensive motor replacement, I'm leery that once it's all apart, it'll never quite be the same when reassembled, it's so settled in place after all these years. Went through that with my last GE dryer.

Thanks for any advice.
