Troubleshooting tips for a Samsung washer that will not drain or spin

After a *drain cycle*---there should remain about 2 to 3 cups of water in the PUMP HOUSING (where the pump strainer is).

No water should be seen in the tub at the end of the cycle---however if the tub will not *spin*---there will be much more water remaining in the tub when the laundry is removed.

Samsung DRAIN MOTOR impellers---when rotated by hand should feel like...

Turns-Resistance-Turns-Resistance-Turns (a permanent magnet type motor).

If the DRAIN MOTOR spins freely---it should be replaced.

Samsung front load washers are also sensitive to over-use of detergent (or the wrong type).

Usually when the cycle has reached *8 minutes* remaining---the Display Clock will *stall* and remain at 8 minutes until either the suds becomes reduced (which is unlikely)---or the spin cycle eventually defaults and the cycle ends without having initiated the spin-dry mode.

WF209 Samsung washers also had a slight software issue---if the laundry room is cold---the oil in the VRT balance rings become slightly thicker. This thickening of the oil solution in the tub balance rings increases the length of time needed for the steel balls to spread/separate---when the tub spin speed reaches 400 RPM.

The MAIN BOARD is unaware that the thicker oil is making the balls within the balance rings---to take longer to achieve balance---and aborts the ramp up to high speed spin. After several attempts the MAIN BOARD aborts the spin cycle altogether and the machine shuts off with wet laundry in the tub.

This was corrected by changing the SPIN CYCLE PROFILE in the MAIN BOARD to allow a longer *wait period*---to permit the balls within the balance ring more time to move to it's correct position for effective anti-vibration function during spin.

Again---this ONLY occurs in *cold* environments (and in models with the original MAIN BOARDS).

Remove the DRAIN MOTOR/PUMP ASSY hoses---verify that there's no debris in the hoses---such as a *coin* or *button* which would cause erratic/intermittent drain.

Some Samsung washers have a *white* DRAIN ELBOW that has an "L" shape---located directly under the tub assy at the center.

If your washer has this DRAIN ELBOW---this is a common location for stuck coins/buttons---that swivel open then shut.

If water remains in the tub---the washer will not enter the spin cycle until it has drained out.

If all checks are good---replace the DRAIN MOTOR.
