Appliance Repair Companies: Know Thy Customer!

Samurai Appliance Repair Man

If you're contemplating doing work for someone who lives out of town (eg., rental property in your area) and whom you've never met, it's worth spending a few minutes looking them up online. Google is your friend! Choosing the wrong customer can cost you a bad online review, even though you've already refunded 100% of their money after you've provided services.  There are people out there (mostly real estate types) who take a sadistic pleasure in screwing over service companies. Here's an example of such a guy: http://toddhwaller.com

(Laughing)  Remind me to stay on your good side!

Got a phone call today from a competitor (old friend) putting me on the look out for just the same type of slime, and yes the guy's got a realty company.  Owed a past due invoice for over $200 that was overlooked when the guy called for another service call.  When asked for a credit card number, he told the lady dispatcher to f*ck off.  Real professional.

My friend and I commiserated that there should be a National Jackbag Registry, spelling doom for these ass lickers.

Friend of mine got one of these types the other day. So I called a friend, who told a friend. . Let them deal with the rip offs out there.

The Rate my Customer site is a good concept and it could probably be something big if they would spend some money for some up-to-date web design and technology. Also, too bad the database of customers isn't searchable.

But small businesses definitely need some way to publicly shame abusive customers, an inverse Yelp, something like Squelch.com or Liars.com (both those domains are already taken, but some concept along those lines). To be taken seriously and become popular, the site would need to look slick, support user accounts, profile pages, and have a searchable database. Appliantology fits many of these criteria.

I've actually thought about starting a customer review forum here at Appliantology that anyone can read but only tech members could post in. Any interest in this?

We spoke of it a few years back I remember.

Forgot what we said-- is it worth doing? I don't mind setting it up if members will use it. I just don't want to be the only one posting there.

I think that was what you said before, along with worrying about lawsuits. I was looking for the post and can't find it. I had something else in mind but need to check it out first to see if it's even possible.

Good chatting with you about this in the Appliantology Chatroom!

Like I said there, I've researched this and don't think lawsuits are a big concern if 1) the site guidelines have a clear disclaimer on posted content (this is how Yelp gets away with their shit) and 2) most people who have been asshole customers and who bitch about appliance service fees are not going to be willing or able to pay legal fees to prosecute. As you accurately and succinctly put it in chat:

Cheesedick customer: "Mr lawyer man, please take my case."

Any Lawyer: "What'd you do?"

Cheesedick Customer: "I stiffed someone and didn't pay my bill. . ."

Any Lawyer: "Fuck off, douchebag."

I can't believe you made a site to shame the customer. You're fucking nuts a role model.

One must look only for motive, means, and opportunity to prove a crime.
