Dealing with an 8 year old Whirlpool French Door fridge. It's had the drain enlarged and the accessory drain heater installed in the past. (hasn't been a great fridge...) Today, no cold in Fresh Food or Freezer. Fans running, compressor running. Big block of ice in Freezer covering the piping before the evaporator. Any idea what this means? I can thaw it out, but I am sure it is a symptom of something - trying to get a repair guy out, but can't get one quickly, and very cranky elderly parents hoping it is something simple to fix... (In my old Sub Zero days, I would guess sealed system problem, but I am a salesman by trade and not the expert on any of this...)

Our separate Whirlpool refrigerator is accumulating about 1" of water below the crisper. We've been cleaning out the water about once a week to keep it from dripping on the floor tile. The fridge was built in 2006. I'm happy to replace the seal, but want to make sure there isn't a clogged drain somewhere that I can't see. This is a fridge only unit, so I wouldn't expect a defrost cycle on it. Without a defrost cycle, I would see no need for a drain inside the cabinet. We have have a huge and growing library of technical literature here at Appliantology. If, after searching the Downloads section using the techniques shown in the how-to search video, you're not finding what you need, I have a trick for you that applies to all Whirlpool-built appliances, including those that are Kenmore-branded Whirlpool-built. Whirlpool-built appliances include the following brands: Whirlpool Kitchenaid Jenn-Air Amana Maytag some Crosley many Kenmore models (indicated by the three-digit prefix) For these brands, you want to find the PUB number of the tech sheet. This is important because the same PUB number can apply to multiple different models. So searching by model number won't necessarily find the tech sheet PUB number you need. Here how to find the PUB number for the tech sheet: Open a new browser tab. Go to the Sears site and paste your model number into the search box You'll pull up several thumb nails of parts diagrams. Usually on the first page, the tech sheet part number (what we call the PUB number here at Appliantology) will be listed. It won't necessarily be the first item-- keep reading down the list. Copy that PUB number into your browser (you don't really need me to tell you how to mark, copy, and paste with your browser, do you?) Switch back to the Appliantology browser tab, select "Files" in the site search box and paste in that PUB number. If something comes back in the search results, that's the file you need. If you're still not finding the tech sheet, then post a request in the Appliance Service Manual Requests forum and we'll get it for you. Including the PUB number you found helps us help you. We've been selling our custom oven keypad replacement solution online for about nine months now and have run into this problem many times: The customer doesn't feel confident enough to install the part themselves. We have created pretty thorough installation manuals complete with detailed, high res photography to instruct them in what we already believe is a fairly simple operation. Nevertheless, appliance control parts appear to be intimidating to the average homeowner. Our product - The LinkBox: a small electronic module (typically half the size of an OEM control board) that installs on the backside of an oven touchpad next to the OEM control board. The module has a mounting bracket on it that mates with the mounting bracket for the OEM control board. It comes with a ribbon cable and two leads for L1 and N. The ribbon cable connects to the OEM control board in place of the OEM panel's ribbon cable. The L1 and N leads terminate in piggy-back terminals (or a special adapter depending on which model appliance the customer has) and are to be connected in parallel with incoming power to the OEM control board. It ships with a 7" tablet that will automatically boot into the user interface and establish a Bluetooth connection with the LinkBox when powered on. And that's it. When the customer wants to have this installed by a tech, we will refer them to you, and you can charge them a typical install fee or whatever you want! But it sounds like you get $50-$100 and a happy customer for about 10 minutes of work.
