  2. We have a wall double oven model EW300SC*01 about 25 years old. It's installed in a beach house (which might be part of the problem). The problem is that the top oven won't run without the bottom one running. The top oven is dead until the bottom oven bake knob is moved off the OFF position, then all the lights behind the top and bottom oven controls turn on. This has just started happening. I have tried different circuit topologies in my head but I haven't come up with one that would cause this behaviour. Any ideas before I rip into it (I'm hoping there's a schematic on the back).?

  5. Hi Everyone Yesterday my oven (Samet - basic model built in) was stuck on 115 degrees C. I had it on normal top & bottom element setting. After a while I put the grill function on and it eventually exceeded 120 (after more than 1 hour in total. I figured the bottom element might not be working so the putting the grill on helped it to increase in temp. After some online searching I removed the oven and tested the bottom element for continuity... nothing. And it looks pretty beat up with holes in and deformed. So I think it's safe to say it needs to be replaced. What concerns me is when I switched the oven from grill to bottom element (yesterday) the temp proceeded to increase past the 120 mark I set it to. When I turned the know higher it only switched off past 150, so it heated 30 degrees and climbing past the intended temp. This concerns me as another person with the same cheap model over caught fire. The temp sensor only has a copper wire running from it, to where it connects to the control board, so I'm unsure how to test it. As the other tests from temp probes online shows two wires in order to test the Ohm rating. I'll order the element so long tomorrow, just want to figure out what caused the overheating also. It's a basic oven, no fancy LCD's, uses turn knobs and a simple led light to show when it reaches temp by switching off.

  8. Just pulled a bad bake element out of a Kenmore electric oven 790.46893903. I have never seen anything as bad as this. The element cover (below the element in this model) had burn marks and a whole burned through. Do you think the element failed partially, drooped down and touched the cover while still partially energized until it failed completely? (Having trouble uploading pix.) Will do ASAP.
  9. Hi guys. Just trying to work out what’s happening with this Westinghouse Gas oven model no. GOR474SLP. Ive got 120v ac going to one igniter but 0v going to the next. I’ve tested it at the igniter and also at the PCB from which they both originate. Same values there as well. Do you think it’s just a faulty PCB?
  10. I have a Kenmore 790.71513400 gas range that the oven will not light. When this started I assumed it was the igniter again, I had replaced it approximately three years ago. You could hear the relay snap after setting the oven temperature on the panel, but the igniter would not glow. I replaced the igniter, but it still does not glow/light. Again, you hear the relay snap, but that is it. I took apart the igniter wiring to check for bad connections or corrosion, and the smaller spade terminal on the gas safety valve didn't look too good. All of that is cleaned up now. I have not checked for voltage, would that be my net step?
  11. Replaced both igniters, then replaced both burner tubes. Burner tubes performed to manufacturer guidelines right out of the box, - right size flame and all blue. Six operating hours later left side sputter sound, flame is in the burner tube. Noisy partial burn Flame originating at nozzle where Tube is inserted. Thank you.
  12. Hello appliance enthusiasts, yesterday we bought a GE oven at a flea market in Chicago for $180 - looked new. We brought it home and up our staircase and installed it. The range worked great and the oven turned on right away. I made some frozen Kale Puffs in the oven and it worked great. I turned the oven off. I was happy because our old oven has not been working for some time, so then I went to make another frozen treat - a samosa wrap - in the oven. I set the timer on the oven for 50 minutes and walked away. The timer went off 50 minutes later and I came back to find the samosa wrap cold. The oven would not turn on! I turned it off and on again and unplugged and plugged in the the electrical cord several times. Even this morning - the range works great - I made scrambled eggs - but the oven will not turn on. The light turns on but I see no evidence of the fire starting beneath the oven when I turn the oven nob. Strange because this is the same problem our old oven had - the range turned on but not the oven. Can you advise me on how to troubleshoot this? Friendsgiving is this Thursday! thank you very much, benG
  13. Hi Appliantologists - I've got a Gaggenau double wall oven (Series 100), Model EB194610, guessing about 15 years old. The door lock latches to pull open the doors have gotten very stiff, to the point where the handles broke off! (Oh joy, $120x2 for Part Number 00157481, the handle bracket parts, I may try to weld it or machine something from stainless). First dumb question - How do I slide the oven out of the wall? Is there a lever somewhere to open, or a series of screws? The owners guide doesn't show details, and I haven't been able to find an install/removal guide online. Everything is geared to the newer 200/400 series now... Parts diagram hasn't cleared it up for me either. Second one - I'm guessing it's the mechanical lock that is either stiff, or has gotten so worn that there's a shark's tooth profile that doesn't release the door's roller latch easily. This lock is part 00299830, $123 for each oven, and out of stock at Gaggenau USA. If I can get the oven out, I'm guessing I need to remove the side panel to get at this? I can try lubricating it, or grinding out the worn portion that curves backwards. Otherwise replacement handle brackets will fail again as my wife pulls open the door with all her might! I'm not a pro appliance repair person, so it seems I can't join the site as a pro member, but am very comfortable maintaining & improving our home (just installed several mini split air source heat pumps and upgraded the house with a 200A circuit breaker panel). Any help would be great, and would be glad to throw a few bucks towards the site (or homebrew too...). Thanks everyone!

  18. My oven will not turn on. There are blue blinking lights that indicate the error code. The left light which says oven blinks twice. Then the right light which says heating blinks once. Does anyone know what error code this is so I can order a part.

  21. Many techs have trouble interpreting a schematic diagram and understanding how to use it for troubleshooting. In this webinar, held on March 29, 2019, we used a Samsung electric dryer and a GE double oven as case studies to review electric circuit principles and troubleshooting. Some of the topics we talked about: Neutral sensing in Samsung dryers: what that means, what it does, and how it affects troubleshooting Series and parallel circuits and how to identify them on a real-world schematic Voltage in a circuit as a DIFFERENCE in voltage between two points How it can be useful to use a reference other than Neutral for your voltage measurements when troubleshooting; Line can be a reference, too! Properly interpreting your meter reading based on your reference Using the Ten Step Tango to troubleshoot Developing troubleshooting strategies to do all your troubleshooting from the main control board Unique features in Samsung dryers to be aware of when troubleshooting a no-heat complaint. 22. I have a RB526H2ww stove. The oven (bake) element stopped working. While removing it, I noticed only one of the push-on wire terminals was not connected to anything. I opened the back of the stove and found out the end of the red wire that supplies power to the bake element had burned out. The metal part where the end of the bake element should insert was damaged. That wire goes from the bake element to the broil element to the bake/broil knob and from there an other attached wire goes to the oven light on the control panel. My issue is that I cannot seem to find a replacement for this wire on any of the parts websites; it is not even mentioned on the replacement parts list. Can anyone help? Thank u so much!
  23. Hi, The above oven is a free standing oven and grill. When either the oven or grill is turned on the igniter glows, but the burner does not fire up. Intermittently it will work. Unsure what is common to both the oven and grill, or what I need to test to verify what needs to be replaced. Many thanks
