  7. Hello all, The nuts and bolts: Looking for how to enter test mode on a Samsung DV219AEW/XAA. Can't find it on the web. There are no error codes showing at the moment, but although it lets you input a cycle (and lights up as if it is starting) there is no heat, the drum doesn't spin, and after counting down two minute into the cycle, the timer drops down to 1 minute. I need the entry method to start the diagnostic test, and the error code table, which I know is only in the service manual, but I'm not qualified to be an appliance tech so I can't sign up for a membership. Any assistance is greatly appreciated. The long version: Sometime lurker, this is my first post. Since I may be here more often, I'll go ahead and introduce myself. I'm the wife of a supposed-to-be-retired electrician who is also a do-anything kind of guy. He grew up in the trades and was on job sites since he was around 8 years old, so he's got a lot of experience and, as we privately like to call it, "little known facts of useless information" in his head. Though, of course, they aren't useless at all - he can figure out just about anything. (I'm not bragging - trust me he has his flaws, as do I, LOL- but he really is a very, very talented handy guy, as well as a kick butt electrician.) Although he is primarily an electrician, he is often asked to do other things, and appliance repair comes up relatively often. Usually it's after he's on site for something else, and the customer says, "Hey, I also have xxxx, do you know anything about working on that?" I am what we jokingly call tech support. I scour the web for diagnostic tests, service manuals, and any other info I can find. I've logged countless hours on the web on various electrical and appliance forums looking up problems, solutions, printing out schematics, etc. (You'd be surprised at the level of detail involved with old electrical panels, for example.) With appliances, from research I'm usually able to narrow the problems down, and predict parts needed, though not always, because sometimes it's wiring issues and of course he needs to do that on site. In any case, I'm his right hand on stuff. It's my job to get him the info he needs to start diagnosing, or go one better and point him in the most likely direction, saving him some time. In some cases we do tell the customer to call an actual appliance repair tech, and in rare cases, to not bother repairing, and to buy a replacement. I'm not in a position to do the coursework here, but I love the concept and execution of this site. If my husband were younger, I'm sure he would do the courses, since he already has the electrical knowledge as well as general "how things work" knowledge...but he's actually supposed to be retired, LOL.

  9. My Samsung NX58J7750SS Gas Range that I purchased less than 4 years is showing error code C-FO meaning "Check the PCB signals." The gas burners work. Nothing else works for more than 60 seconds. For example, if I hit the reset (off/clear) button to make the code disappear and than then hit broil and start buttons, I can see the igniter working and the blue flame function properly in the oven, then after 60 seconds the C-F0 code appears again and the oven shuts off. I did an extended reset by unplugging the range for over an hour. No change. I inspected both sides of the Main process control board (PCB) and do not see any evidence of "burned out" components, traces, etc. Samsung discontinued making the replacement for the Main PCB (part number DE41-00455A) and I was not able to find it in stock at any of the parts warehouses or on ebay. Samsung repair service cannot (will not) fix because board not available. In addition, none of the major board repair services (e.g., board medic) repair this board. What can I do to further troubleshoot and repair or replace the board? I want to try everything possible before throwing this less than 4-year-old relatively expensive appliance ($1400) in the landfill. Help. Please advise.
  10. Okay, I'm being (just a tiny bit) cheeky about annihilating my refrigerator. I'm not far off though, this thing (as many will already know) is a nightmare. It hasn't shattered my pelvis, as I understand my Samsung washer has been known to do to some people, but that would really be the icing on the cake. All I really need to know is this (TL;DR in bold type): When defrosting my ice maker (I'm just waiting on the silicone) for the 5,042nd time this year, apparently a small piece broke off of the cowling for the auger motor. It was a small white plastic piece that protrudes into the ice tray. Research leads me to believe this is the ice maker temperature sensor (which, I believe would be part 23-3 on the parts list). My question is: Can I just replace the sensor, and the cowling on the motor, or will I really have to buy the entire ($180) assembly? The motor works fine, the ice maker is making ice, but not ejecting it. It is not jammed, or anything like that. I'd even consider gluing the piece back on, but I don't know where it went. I found it in a drink after unjamming it from the ice crusher and didn't know where it came from at the time.
  11. Does anyone now what the part number for this is (it’s the white gear looking thing That slides in to the other white part that’s screw on to the main part)? I don’t need the whole assembly. I just need the coupler/gear that slides int to the clutch. I can’t seem to find it.

  18. In this glimpse into the glamour life of an appliance tech, we troubleshoot an E-OE error code on a Samsung gas range with the added twist of rat infestation and yapping little dogs. It's winter in New Hampshire and rodents will seek out warm places but this place was a literal rats nest. The smell of rodent piss was gagging us (me and @Son of Samurai) as soon as we walked in the door. It would have been stronger if it was actually warm inside the kitchen but it was probably only about 45F which kept the stench at sub-gag level. And then, to make our joy complete, we were serenaded by yapping Jack Russell terriers the entire time. (Isn't it about time we outlawed little yapping dogs? How 'bout at least make it legal to shoot them on sight?) Service calls often come with distractions and curve balls. Master Technicians don't get thrown by these, because they understand technology and have a reliable troubleshooting system. If you've already taken the Fundamentals of Appliance Repair course, then take your troubleshooting and repair skills to the next level with the Master Samurai Tech Oven and Range Repair course. It's loaded with technology knowledge boosts along with case studies using real tech sheets to give you lots of practice.
  19. Recently replace belt and tension pulley, seems to work fine, but then heat now inconsistent. Ordered and replaced thermostat assembly ($10 part) but old one still showed continuity. Checked continuity on everything else, all good. Cleaned thoroughly, replaced dirty vent hose (and got rid of excessive length) and seemed to be working fine. A few loads later and now doesn't get very hot, which is weird for a gas heater, right? What to check next?
  20. Dear Forum I've been at this for days trying to rule every other component out to make certain I order the right part to fix my Samsung DV350AGP/XAA Gas Dryer. The cycle runs, motor spins, controls and display respond normally. There is no heat. The igniter does not glow. There is no AC voltage on the igniter line when the dryer is spinning. I have first isolated and then conducted resistance tests on all the sensors as follows: Igniter resistance is 119Ω Thermostat located near the blower is 0Ω Hi-Limit Thermostat located on gas chamber reads 0Ω Radiant (flame) sensor reads 0Ω Thermistor reads 12Ω @ 67°F on the sensor and up at the motherboard as well. Tested the gas valves as well and all are according to manufacture spec at 1.39Ω / 1.28Ω / 0.57Ω Tested my belt cut-off switch, door switch and even the lamp are all right on spec. So now my attention is turned to the motherboard, there is little information out there on how to test the motherboard but I've tried to test the heater relay switch RY6, it does not change in resistance at any time during a drying cycle or when the dryer is powered off. Is this normal? when my meter is at VAC, i do pickup the following on the Heater Relay Switch: 0.092AC Voltage when dryer powered ON but not in a cycle 0.192AC Voltage when dryer is in a cycle (spinning) 0.187AC Voltage when dryer is powered OFF its so minor i fail to see its significance though unless the heat relay is using this small amount of voltage to trigger another relay somewhere else I have yet to find. Should the heater relay close circuit when the dryer is running and its failure to do so means the on board relay is bad? Have i tested it properly? i just pulled the RY6 header off and Ohms tested pin 1 to pin 2 and go nothing, started the dryer and still got nothing. Can anyone take a stab at helping me determine if my motherboard is bad or if its a bad wiring issue or did I overlook a sensor or relay test? MUCH APPRECIATED! My neighbors are getting tired of drying our laundry for us. Thanks!
