Cover or no cover?

Do you think it's a good idea to have a cover over the condensing unit of my central air during the offseason? I live in Michigan, so we get real winter weather here.

It is a good idea to cover it to keep debris out but use something which will breathe to prevent moisture buildup and ensuing rust.

I built a plywood box about 8" deep that fits over the top of the a/c unit.  I have used it for the past 5 years and it keeps out nature's debris.  I always pull the side panel just before the cooling season starts and clean out any bugs and junk that can get in the contactors, etc.

I like that idea. I could even make it a full height cover to protect it from my kids. If I put a vent near the top it would allow air circulation.
