All Appliantology tech members are invited to join in this workshop on all things Appliantological.
We have a special session planned for this one. Instead of the usual Show 'n Tell on a technical topic, we're going to post tech sheets in the comments to this Calendar Event (scroll down to see what's posted so far) and ask specific questions that can only be answered by reading the tech sheet. If you at least try to answer the questions beforehand, you'll get a lot more out of it. The tech sheet and the questions are posted in the comments section below.
Your mission, if you should choose to accept it, is to check out the questions for each one and try to answer them ahead of time. Then come to the Dojo to see how well you did!
Who: This workshop is only available to tech members at Appliantology.
When: Saturday, April 27 @10:00 AM Eastern Time.
      Where: Online via Zoom
      How:
Click here to go to the forum topic with the registration link. If you're interested, register now. Arrive a couple minutes early to make sure your connection is working. Set a reminder for yourself for this workshop so you don’t miss it.  And check out past workshops here: https://appliantology.org/announcement/33-webinar-recordings-index-page/

Trane Clean Effects air cleaner system

I was in a hurry to figure out why my AC wasn't working, When I called the guy, it's under warranty only 7 months old, he said I should clean the filter and let the A-coil melt off. He said he would call me in an hour.

I hosed out the pre-filter and the main element, they were pretty clean because the filter system was installed a few months after the main system was put in. I decided to to stick the unit in the dishwasher while I searched for the manual.

When I found the manual. it said Do Not Put in Dishwasher. It was in there a good 5-10 min with soap.

I took it out and washed it with plain water, Then  I dried it completely with compressed air.

My question is, did I ruin the main element? If so, how much would a new element cost?

It was a bone headed mistake, I should know better.

A contributing cause was I just got done with therapy for my recent knee surgery, and I was hurting and on Vicodin. It knocked a few points off my IQ

The part in question is the "collection cell". I'm not having any luck finding anyone on the internet to get a price to correct my blunder. My 10 year warranty and service plan will not likely cover my own stupidity.

no you did not hurt it . i dont know why but when you put it in the dishwasher the metal can turn WHITE   and this will void warrinty even though it has nothing to do with how its works ....... i have had a few honywell cells cells like this and i have to void them out .....SO...... DONT WORRY ABOUT IT !   just dont do it again , i have no idea what would happen if you did it over and over

The "collection cell" on this model is ceramic, and I believe it has a carbon coating inside the holes. The soap would start to break down the carbon coating.

I wanted to see if I could buy the cell myself to avoid the dealer. I really don't want to confess my stupidity to the people I have my warranty with.

So far, even the Trane dealer hasn't been able to get the main control board for my Trane TV95 system. It's a new model and nobody stocks it. The recent heat wave probably killed off quite a few units and spiked demand. Maybe after some time passes, the locals will have parts stocked for my unit.
