All Appliantology tech members are invited to join in this workshop on all things Appliantological.
We have a special session planned for this one. Instead of the usual Show 'n Tell on a technical topic, we're going to post tech sheets in the comments to this Calendar Event (scroll down to see what's posted so far) and ask specific questions that can only be answered by reading the tech sheet. If you at least try to answer the questions beforehand, you'll get a lot more out of it. The tech sheet and the questions are posted in the comments section below.
Your mission, if you should choose to accept it, is to check out the questions for each one and try to answer them ahead of time. Then come to the Dojo to see how well you did!
Who: This workshop is only available to tech members at Appliantology.
When: Saturday, April 27 @10:00 AM Eastern Time.
      Where: Online via Zoom
      How:
Click here to go to the forum topic with the registration link. If you're interested, register now. Arrive a couple minutes early to make sure your connection is working. Set a reminder for yourself for this workshop so you don’t miss it.  And check out past workshops here: https://appliantology.org/announcement/33-webinar-recordings-index-page/

Compressor cycles on (about 2 seconds) and off in "Cool" mode; takes about 10 seconds before compressor cycles again, with no cool air.

We pulled the AC from the case, then I used 'Foaminator', or some good stuff like it to clean cooling fins- had to clean them twice, they were so filthy.  Unit is in a rental trailer, so you know how well the tenants kept the filter cleaned.

Do we need a new AC?

If the start capacitor is good, yes......have the capacitor tested or look to see if the end is bubbled up and not smooth and straight across...mark your wires to the capacitor and carefully remove the wires, be sure the a/c is unplugged and you dis-charge the capacitor with an insulated screw driver first.  If the top of the capacitor is really bulged out you are going to have to be really really careful removing the wires without it exploding in your hands...if it is bad match up the size and shape and the mfd ratings posted on the side...

Guess the condenser is on top of the compressor???  I removed the rubber cover- condenser looks normal; no bulging, bubbles, or discoloring. Condenser is about 1 inch diameter, round, and looks like a car's turn-signal flasher?

Lastly, to discharge- all I need to do is touch both condenser contacts with an insulated screwdriver, after disconnecting the 2 condenser wires, correct???

CAPACITOR.....not the overload....the condensor is the outside coil......
