Refridgerator, amana side by side 5 years old

I have noticed that the fridge temp is warmer then usual and the freezer seems to be partially melting and refreezing.

My water dispenser also stopped at the same time.

i unplugged the unit for 4 hours replugged and everything worked.

Same problem again next day. I took of the evap cover and noticed some frost a bit more then the pic on your web sit the one titled inefficient evap pic.

I also twisted that lil box underneath that looks like a timer. it made the fridge start and stop depending on where i left it (i know its the defrost timer thx to youre site) I just did not know what position to leave it in.

At this pioint the fridge is not cooling very fast but the freezer is about 15 degrees.do not know wherethe  temp is supposed to be either. My contols are set at full blast.(not much cool air coming out on fridge vent except for the milk compartment.)

My wife wants me to call the appliance guy first thing in the morning.

Do they still deliver dry ice??? mmmmm!

THX

Need appliance parts? Call 877-803-7957 now!

Bottom freezer? Drop that back panel in the freezer and replace the defrost thermostat.

What's the model number?

SQd26v It sounds to simple to be true.

The fan spins still on the bottom.

Does that mean there are freezers on the top ?

I may of misunderstood. This is a side by side no freezer on the bottom.

Sound likely that the SxS fridgr has a defrost problem.

The defrost heater and/or the defrost thermostat could be BAD.:(

I appreciate everyones help.

I have gone 12 hours now with out a problem. 40 degrees fridge and 10 degrees freezer. Do you Think these temps are ok? I can't diagnose a problem to easily if it is intermitten.

Question!

Does it matter where I leave the timer knob setting. Mine shuts the fridge at a setting of 2:00 o'clock. The timer does work I see it move and can hear it with my ear piece.

should i set it to defrost every 4 hours and how do i do it.

THX

again.

Nice!!!

The GFI just tripped. I think the snow on the coil tripped it. it seems all the wiring harness sits ontop the coil.

You want 34 to 38 in the fresh food compartment and 0F in the freezer. If you cannot acheive these temps, then there's gonna be big trouble in little China.

Is there more then one evaporator coil, thermostat or heater coil?

Nyet, comrade. The solitary evaporator coil is located in the freezer. All your cold air is made there and distributed throughout the fridge. The defrost heaters are used solely to defrost the evaporator, so there's only one o' them bad boyz, too. The solitary cold control ("thermostat") is located in the fresh food compartment in most fridges.

MMM! I i'd like to contribute to the beer fund. I want you to try a new beer. The best I have had. It comes from the chezh republic. It is called rebel. They have been making this beer for 700 years. If you can't get it in your area let me know.

In the mean while.I guess i will short the the thermostat to check the heater. No need to check the timer, right?

Or just buy the parts and replace them, how much could they be?

THX

Mark

ive been replacing defrost terminators on amanas like crazy lately. take a look at it you will probably see the plastic lid piece lifted slightly. moisture leaks in then freezes, seperating the contacts preventing defrost. this can be very intermittent like you described.

I appreciate the help.

I just lost another weeks groceries thinking the problem went away. I know better then that. No elves fixed it while I was sleeping and the automatic self fixing feature must be broken to.

I will buy the thermostat. I wonder if this online company (samurai) can send them ASAP.

I was told there is also a evaporater and thermostat on the ice maker. Is this true?

Many THX

Haven't had the pleasure of quaffing a Rebel brew yet. Don't even know if I can get it up here in the North Woods. Always in search of new brews, though. :guzzle:

You can order the part with overnight shipping.

An icemaker will have a mold heater and a thermostat. No evaporator. They would have nothing to do with your fridge warming up. I think you need a new defrost thermostat, like Denny said. You can always tell for sure by testing it for continuity while it's still at freezer temp. If it reads open, it's bad.

Greetings again,

Last year I had this problem and solved it. I also contributed cash to th samurais beer fund.

A similar problem is happening again.

Here are the symptoms:

GFI has tripped on a few occasions.

Cool temps on both freezer and fridge.

No water coming from water dispenser.

As last years thread indicates, I replaced the thermostat.

The symptoms are similar to last year but this year I notice no frost.

Please help. As usuall I will be glad to contribute again. THX

Take the refrigerator off the GFI outlet, should run fine that way. As it ages, it will develop current leaks to ground which will trip the GFI. That's why most manufacturers tell to to avoid using a GFI outlet for your major appliances.

You can look up the part you need here: http://www.repairclinic.com/referral.asp?R=154&P=69

Overnight shipping is available.
