:help:Hello all,

Anyone one have any knowledge of these old US belt-pulley system type air conditioners? I have no knowledge of how to locate model number.

I live in a rental and very poor abode, and our landlord refuses to do ANYTHING by way of maintenance.

Hubbie and I have been trying to prepare to move out...however, it's 100+ degrees F out here.  I recently had a "kind stranger" replace the motor to the outside portion of this dinosaur. A/C worked better than it has for weeks, until this morning.

Clack, clack, clack...yes the belt is on the fritz. Belt number is 4L-380, and says "anti-static, oil and heat resistant."  (I just need a month or two at MOST to keep this thing going so I can function well enough to move).

Anyone have ANY thoughts. I've called this "kind stranger" to ask about the part. However, I thought I would also look here...would so much appreciate being able to avoid boiling 100+ temp. I'm attaching a couple of photos of full inside,  belt closeup which I also have hilighted, and one of the outside part of unit.

I know, be prepared to laugh or be shocked. (I'm already past the crying). :ooo:

PS: Hubbie found belt for low price (called local HVAC stores, was told can get this "common" belt at any auto parts store...go figure).

question: How to install belt...can it just be stretched around pulley system? We'll see...

Howdy All,

Well bless the Creator of all... A/C is back up and running for now. :goofball:

The fix: An 8$ belt from auto supply store and gently stretch it back between grooves of pulley system using flathead screwdriver.

Am adding picture of close-up of old belt...

Hoorah...<whew>...back to working on washing machine, when part arrives and I receive more advice (see my post in laundry forum)...

If you ever have problems with the bearings or shaft on this type of blower, both can be purchased from Lau manufacturing.
