      We have a special session planned for this one. Instead of the usual Show 'n Tell on a technical topic, we're going to post tech sheets in the comments to this Calendar Event (scroll down to see what's posted so far) and ask specific questions that can only be answered by reading the tech sheet. If you at least try to answer the questions beforehand, you'll get a lot more out of it. The tech sheet and the questions are posted in the comments section below.
      Your mission, if you should choose to accept it, is to check out the questions for each one and try to answer them ahead of time. Then come to the Dojo to see how well you did!

Girl lost her right hand due to a Washing machine accident during the AGITATE cycle

when she was only 9 years old in 1998.

White-Westinghouse Washer manufactured by White Consolidated Industries Inc.,

owned by Sweden's Electrolux.

An Electrolux spokesman, said the design change that eliminated the safety switch

was actually made to add a different switch to lock the lid during the spin cycle of the washers.

It happened in a Maytag top loader in the 1980's, the lid switch failed in the closed position, that's the reason they added the check switch and fuse to the lid switch. Maytag got sued for somebody's dislocated arm.

looking at the video I would say that the center shipping  bolt was never removed.that might have something to do with what happened to this poor girl.

We get a lot of machines in for service that have had the lid switch deliberately bypassed. We either make them agree to have it replaced or have them sign releasing us from any legal action.
