Thermastat went blank, Honeywell t8411R 1028

My honeywell thermostat was working yesterday then went blank today and the airconditioner has shut off.

So far I have tried,

1. Checking the fuse and it's fine. Nothing wrong with it.

2. Checking the wiring in the thermastat, everything is still conected.

3. Water pan under the air conditioner is empty.

4. Tried to jump the G, R, and Y wires and nothing.

Any other suggestions or thoughts?

The airconditioning unit is made by Carrier although I am not sure what model.

Don't know what your setup is (heat pump? split system? Package unit?) but somewhere there is a transformer that is supposed to be sending 24VAC to your thermostat. In your case, sounds like it ain't. Can you test R to Y at the thermostat for voltage? Can you find that transformer? Most important, find that data plate with model number.

Thaks for the reply, the transformer was defiately blown. The problem turned out to be the coolent circulation valve (I think that is what it was called) on the outside unit. It melted and something was exposed causing the transformer to blow out. We have home owners insurance and it covered the repairs, thank God! The repair man came out and blew 7 transformers trying to figure out the problem. He said the repair would have been in the $800+ range if we didn't have insurance! Only cost us $60 bucks! So yea, the $500 a year was definately worth it. Score!

1) I'm not sure he knows what he's doing / how to test.

I wouldn't want to tell my boss he just ate 7 transformers.

Anyway, sounds like Ken's got a heat pump with maybe a shorted solenoid on the reversing valve. How that would take out the transformer before the fuse beats me, though.
