Whirlpool Gas Water Heater N30T61-303

Pilot will not stay lit.  It will lite with button depressed but will not stay lit when let go.   Light does not blink.

The thermopile has 56 mV when heated.  Owner does not have an owners manual.

Are there any other sensors that can be checked.  There is a probe that one lead of the thermopile plugs into.

Revised model # NU30T61-303

Suggestions?

Thermopile generated 569 mV with a heat gun,  failed to add the 9.  Heated a good furnace 750 mV with heat gun & it generated same voltage.  I am sure that thermopile is good.

My other option is to rule the gas control as failed.  From what my wife/partner  researched these control units have failed quite often on this particular model.

There is something else that I am unsure about.   The probe that sticks in to the heater cabinet. It has no continuity at the connections.

The eco ( Energy Cut Off ) is most likely the "sensor" you referred to. It is a thermal safety switch that monitors overheating of the unit and will shut down gas flow to the burner. If tripped it will not cut off gas to the pilot. Sounds like a bad circuit board in the gas control valve. The thermopile generates the voltage that the board needs to operate. If the thermopile is good the led status light should do something once the pilot has heated the thermopile up enough to generate proper voltage. According to the manual the thermopile and sensor wires do not interconnect. They have specific plug in locations on the gas valve. The manual is available on Whirlpools web site. http://whirlpoolwaterheaters.com/owner-center/product-manuals/manuals/319118-002.pdf
