I think it's a mislabeling. Sites call it an inverter/start device but I see a used one listed as an "LED power supply". Must be the latter. It must invert power from ac to dc for the LED's and since it is near the compressor the labeling of inverter/start device is an error born out of an assumption. Sears, repair clinic et al have it wrong. Then again, it would not surprise me if Whirlpool sent them the wrong info. I am glad though because it was making my head explode. I'm not sure is that was the "dead" problem. At first I thought that plug coming out of the board was loose, because the fridge came alive, but then it happened again when I unplugged it and plugged it in, then I found out about the light switch not being activated.
