Customer said washer would not spin and could smell belt burning. Asked for new belts. Ordered him new belts and installed them per his request. Machine agitates ok but still will not spin without assistance. Tub is hard to turn by hand but will start spin if assisted. Suspect bearings are beginning to seize. Any one dealt with this issue before?? Don't want to tear into it unless it's necessary. Any assistance would be appreciated.

This is just the good old Dependable Care 2 belt Maytag with a dryer on a rack above washer.

If the main spin bearing was locking up it is almost always caused from a leaking tub seal.  If you removed the front panel and there are no signs of splatter around the cabinet right at the bottom of the tub then most likely it's not a bearing and seal problem.

Most likely problem is something caught between spin basket and outer tub.

Hey Willie. Nothing between outer and inner tub or under agitator. Could it be brake is not fully releasing??

Could be, but I've never had a problem with one of these brakes.

Did you take the front off and check for any signs of leakage?

With front off and washer pulled out from dryer rack, have you tipped the washer back and turned the pulley by hand in both directions.  When turning in the spin direction does the transmission seem to turn little or does the pulley just seem to turn but not hardly any drag on it but transmission doesn't turn then you could have an internal transmission problem.
