Looking to replace my crappy GE Profile (made by Samsung) so looking for recommendations as to what the experts would purchase, Side by side, freezer on bottom and from what manufacturer? Thanks for your expert opinion in advance. Jim H.

Those Samsung made GE refrigerators are actually good machine. 

 

Buy another Samsung.

It collects water under the crisper drawers then freezes up...I have to manually defrost also as frost/ice builds up atound the fan every 2 to 3 months.

I think that it is better that you buy a used refrigerator.Most refrigerators that people throw are still in a great working condition and you can save a lot on your money too.Not only that it even saves energy and helps to reduce a lot of e-wastes.I am doing a renewable energy training program in cestar college.You could even contact your nearest recycling unit and see whether they have any old refrigerators in stock.

I can't tell you how many calls I get for craigslist appliances that have major issues. Mostly refrigerators with sealed system problems.

Its getting bad enough, that we are thinking about turning down all calls of folks who buy used machines from Craigslist.  Funny part, most of these calls come in like this.  "I just bought the machine.  Practically brand new and doesn't work."  no... your machine is practically 15-20 years old and needs replacing. Sorry.

Yes, I have had much the same experience... There seems to be some reason the seller always gives for why they can't plug it in, if you are buying used, make it a deal breaker if they won't let it run long enough, before you get it, to establish that it is indeed cooling!

Like the way those old horror movies would start, with the kids headed off to go camping, many appliance nightmares begin with, "So, I found this awesome deal on Craig's List..."
