I have a BSG81396UC Premium Prestige Canister Vacuum Cleaner 1450W that is about 10 years old.

 

The vacuum does not have suction when the suction hose is attached.  If I detach the  suction hose , suction  is fine, filter and bag are clean.  Any idea? some sought of safety switch or contacts defective?
