All Appliantology tech members are invited to join in this workshop on all things Appliantological.
We have a special session planned for this one. Instead of the usual Show 'n Tell on a technical topic, we're going to post tech sheets in the comments to this Calendar Event (scroll down to see what's posted so far) and ask specific questions that can only be answered by reading the tech sheet. If you at least try to answer the questions beforehand, you'll get a lot more out of it. The tech sheet and the questions are posted in the comments section below.
Your mission, if you should choose to accept it, is to check out the questions for each one and try to answer them ahead of time. Then come to the Dojo to see how well you did!

Replacing interior (oven) bulb on Amana microwave AMV5206BAS

Hello,

I am trying to replace the interior bulb on my Amana AMV5206BAS microwave. The owners manual says to remove 2 screws on the top of the microwave and tip out the trim panel before pulling it up and out. It seems like it is secured somewhere at the bottom of the trim panel at the center. I am afraid I will break it as it is only plastic. Am I missing something else?

Thank you

Dave

Quick update....I went to Amana's site. My owners manual was wrong!!! Per their site, I had to remove screws and slide trim panel to the left. It immediately came off. My manual said to remove screws and pull straight up. I would have destroyed the plastic tabs.

Be sure to disconnect the power too, I always do this when changing a microwave bulb as a precaution!

And....it would be best if you discharged the hi voltage capacitor after lifting the cabinet off. Most have an internal resistor that discharges them......but don't trust any of them. You're not a happy camper after getting jolted by one of these bastards........it's not a fun time......and it's an event you'll remember the rest of your life.......

I agree it's always a good practice to unplug the unit for changing out a light bulb. Ge has some that they say if you do not unplug the microwave to change the light bulb you will fry the board.
