If you have a PDF that isn't already in the File library here at Appliantology, send it to us by attaching it to the contact form.
Also, follow this Calendar Event so you'll get notified of new posts here. Look for the "Follow" button either at the top of the topic on desktop or below the topic on mobile.

Maytag Advance Cooking System Gas Range MGS5870ADB No power to Ignitor

I noticed that my Maytag Advance Cooking System Gas Range MGS5870ADB bake function was not working. I opened it up to see that the ignitor was not glowing at all. I removed it and tried a new ignitor (which looks identical) but that did not glow either. I tested both with digital multi-meter and they both have continuity. The range is getting electricity - the oven light and electric sparkers for burners are working. How do I find out why the ignitors are not going on and how to I fix that? I am not sophisticated at all in my understanding of appliances, electricity, or even how to use the mutli-meter - which I just got.

If you're not getting any voltage to the ignitor, the three things I would be checking would be(in order). First would be a bad oven temperature sensor. It could be open or the resistance could be way out of whack. This is a very common part to go bad, so I would try that first. If that's not the problem I would search for a bad wire, and third.......possible bad control board, which is expensive.

If the gas safety valve has shorted or is bad it won't send current to the Ignitor.

Did you cut power before changing Ignitor?
