Whirlpool refrigerator Model# ET8CHMXKQ03 keeps freezing drain tube

PAjay

Recommended Posts

My Whirlpool refrigerator has a bad habit of freezing the drain tube located in the freezer that drains the melted ice off the coils. It usually takes about 8-10 months for it to get to the point that the thawed ice runs into the refrigerator, and then begins the task of emptying everything out, letting the drain tube thaw, and putting everything back in.. Wondering what could be causing this event.

Does the water in the defrost drain pool up in the center with the drain hole off to the right???  if it does, just push down on the drain pan so the water will flow better down the drain pan....Some times , a ridge is formed around the drain pan hole and not all the water drains out.....I use a large flat bladed screwdriver  to put a notch on the ridge.....Then I install P/N  819043 if it applies to your  model........

You want to ensure the drain line is clean as well. They can build up with gunk. Hot water mixed with baking soda squirted down the drain may help. You should hear the water flowing down into drain pan under the refrigerator.

I bend the pan up very slightly at either end to bias it and send the drippings more decisively toward the drain hole also...

Also use a mixer of baking soda and hot water and a clean cloth to clean the entire drain pan as this will remove any oils or protein from food and provide a clean surface for the drain water to flow to the drain hole.
