All Appliantology tech members are invited to join in this workshop on all things Appliantological.
We have a special session planned for this one. Instead of the usual Show 'n Tell on a technical topic, we're going to post tech sheets in the comments to this Calendar Event (scroll down to see what's posted so far) and ask specific questions that can only be answered by reading the tech sheet. If you at least try to answer the questions beforehand, you'll get a lot more out of it. The tech sheet and the questions are posted in the comments section below.
Your mission, if you should choose to accept it, is to check out the questions for each one and try to answer them ahead of time. Then come to the Dojo to see how well you did!
Who: This workshop is only available to tech members at Appliantology.
When: Saturday, April 27 @10:00 AM Eastern Time.
      Where: Online via Zoom

Amazon for Appliances?

Anyone ever purchase a new wash machine from Amazon?  Im looking at Speed Queen.  During my
search, I noticed that there are sellers who advertised "Used-Like New".  Their pricing is half of
retail ($900 Speed Queen for $450) and they claim the item is brand new, never used, and has
all valid manufacturers warranties.  I emailed the seller and they responded stating that the purchase
can be done thru Amazon Gift Cards and stated the purchase is covered by Amazon's A to Z
guarantee.  Im skeptical....anyone ever do this?  Sounds to good to be true to get a Speed Queen
at half price....

Thanks
Tex

I would be skeptical too. "Used like new" in the add and then they say "brand new never been used". Can't be both and "used like new" is a deceptive contradictory term like fresh frozen. Put all that aside knowing that they are very well built machines that may have alot of life left.

Keep in mind, that anybody can sell on Amazon.  You can create an account and list a Speed Queen washer for sale within minutes.  Anybody can say that something is warrantied.   Some of these ads are blatant scams,  others are legitimate sales.

I've been burned on Amazon, eBay, and Searspartsdirect.   Sure, with enough followup,  you get your money back.... but i've found that it is not worth the time and stress.   Be careful

All true speedqueen dealers have minimum advertised pricing, if it is less than $879 something is very wrong.  Could be units with shipping damage but that should be disclosed.  Buying washers and dryers online is a bad idea.

If you want to buy a used appliance, look through the local paper and only buy something you can inspect and preferably test first. #craigslist refrigerator nightmares.com

I suggest buying from local appliance dealers  (not the big boxes store ) you will get better all around service.

The big red flag that no one has mentioned is using Gift Cards, which are not trackable. Anytime any seller suggests gift cards as the main or only way to buy, run away fast.
