KitchenAid Microwave F1E5 MW Inverter error

flymike

Recommended Posts

I have a KitchenAid KEMS379B builtin microwave/oven combo. It will run for a little bit, then stop and show ERR F1E5 MW INVERTER message. If I keep clearing the message and restarting it, the food will eventually reheat/cook but it takes significantly longer. What needs to be done to fix this? Also does the whole unit need to come out (sadly I think it does) or am I able to fix it while it stays mounted in the cabinet?
Thanks for your help,
Mike

You will have to pull it out to expose the parts... microwaves are not the easiest to work on-

F1 Internal E5 Microwave Oven Inverter Error

SUGGESTED CORRECTIVE ACTION PROCEDURE NOTE: Before starting any test, cycle power to the oven (power Off, wait 10 seconds, and power On). After powering on, start a microwave cooking function and wait 1 minute, then verify that the failure appears again.

1. Unplug oven or disconnect power.

2. Check that the P21 and P22 connections of the Microwave Appliance Manager are firmly connected. If they are, go to Step 3. If they are not, reconnect and go to Step 6.

3. Disconnect connector P21 from the Microwave Appliance Manager, and measure the resistance of the thermistor. It should be (approximately) 10kΩ at 77°F ± 10°F (25°C ± 10°C).

4. Disconnect connector P22 from the Microwave Appliance Manager, and measure the resistance of the thermistor. It should be (approximately) 230kΩ at 77°F ± 10°F (25°C ± 10°C).

5. Check thermistor for short to ground. If check on thermistor is not correct, replace the thermistor. If thermistor check is correct, replace the Microwave Appliance Manager

6. Replace all parts and panels before operating.

7. Plug in oven or reconnect power.

8. Verify operation is normal. Re-enter the Diagnostics Mode and erase error code(s).

PRECAUTIONS TO BE OBSERVED BEFORE AND

After replacing the appliance manager did you clear codes and program new control for your machine?

Unplug unit. Verify all wiring and connections are tight and proper.

  • 1 year later...

If the door interlock switch strikes are worn or any hardware is loose, no amount of board swapping will settle the issue. If a board swap accomplished zero, get to inspecting the physical pieces of the door switches first.
