GE ZISS42DCASS no water from dispenser

Dog Breath

Recommended Posts

Hello All -

My GE refrigerator refuses to dispense water from the door.  When I remove the filter and push the dispenser button I get water; however, when I reinstall the filter and push the button there is no water.

From reading the posts on this board it would appear the problem is the filter head (WR17X10521); however, this part no longer appears to be available.  Any ideas as to where I can find this part?  Can the existing part be repaired?

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

I could always install a filter at the water supply line, so I'm not too worried about keeping the GE filter.  I unscrewed the bracket and tried to pull the filter head away from the inside back wall of the refrigerator but it didn't want to come out.  Not sure how to splice the lines together??  Any ideas??  Thanks again for taking the time to help!

Probably have to pull the refrigerator out and access from the rear, which you would have to do to replace the filter head anyway. depending on the sizes of the lines, use the appropriate John Guest fitting(s) to connect the two lines attached to the filter head.

If I bought a replacement filter head, could the water lines be disconnected at the filter head and just change the filter head without having to pull the refrigerator out and replace all of the water lines?  Gonna be a nightmare to pull the refrigerator out as there is limited room in front (the doors just clear the counter when opened).

Welcome to my world. Filter head comes with lines attached, which have to be accessed from the rear. The lines are clamped in the rear, making it impossible to pull enough forward from the front to do anything useful.

Refrigerator was obviously designed by someone who didn't have to work on them for a living.....I absolutely despise GE and will never buy anything from them ever again.  I also won't bore you with how GE screwed me out of a $400 rebate that they promised me on the phone when I bought one of their new crappy dishwashers to replace one of their old crappy dishwashers, but I digress......

Think I'm gonna buy a water filter dispenser and put it in the refrigerator and tell the kids to use that instead.  Sounds like a much cheaper and simpler fix in the interim :)
