All Appliantology tech members are invited to join in this workshop on all things Appliantological: bidness, customers, tools, troubleshooting, flavorite brewski, whatever. Webcams and microphones are open and live!
This workshop is also a great time for any students at Master Samurai Tech to bring any and all questions about the coursework. We're happy to walk through any concepts you're having trouble with. Think of it like office hours with your teachers.
If you have a specific appliance problem you'd like us to talk about, post it here! We need a problem statement and a PDF of the tech sheet or schematic so we can all see it on screen share. If you have a PDF that isn't already in the File library here at Appliantology, send it to us by attaching it to the contact form.
Also, follow this Calendar Event so you'll get notified of new posts here. Look for the "Follow" button either at the top of the topic on desktop or below the topic on mobile.
Who: This workshop is only available to tech members at Appliantology.
When: Saturday, March 30 @10:00 AM Eastern Time.
      Where: Online via Zoom

Dryer stops after 2 minutes of heated cycle, can run continuously on air day

My dryer will only run for about 2 minutes in any heating mode and then stops. The power stays on and the timer drops to 0:00. I can start it again without issue and it will again run for ~2 minutes.  It will run on air dry for as long as programmed. I've cleaned the vent and ran the dryer with the vent hose disconnected and that didnt change anything.  I'm going to pull the panel off and look for lint build up near the motor. What else should I look for once i have the panels off?

Does it blow heat for the 2 minutes? If it runs on air dry the motor is not your problem. I understand this is a gas dryer? Could be a number of things, you really need to find the tech sheet on the unit and use it as a reference, see what you can figure out with that and we can go from there.

It does be heat for the 2 minutes is on. It's electric.   What do you mean by the tech sheet?  I have the owners manual and the wiring diagram and brief troubleshooting guide that's tucked near the control board.  Neither were helpful to my ameteur eyes.

The tech sheet is by the control board. I would test thermisisters, should be able to locate from your tech sheet, control board, check for cracked solder joints and or burn marks, usually underneath the heater relay(see tech sheet).

I can not tell from sitting in front of this dang computer but I`m guessing it has a touch control? Could be sticking button(membrane) or ribbon cable worn out

Not sure how capable you are but please be careful and If at any time you feel uncomfortable please please call a professional tech.

DO NOT FORGET TO UNPLUG MACHINE BEFORE YOU START WORK!

Lint build-up near the motor would contribute to the motor thermal cut-out tripping, but that would kill the motor until the device cooled off, so it would not start again immediately if that was the cause- also the motor centrifugal switch wouldn't change display information.

Thermistors are the logical place to start...

Inlet control thermistor.Resistence reading should be around 100K ohms at room temperature and decrease with temperature rise.

Thermistor - Part # 1475625 Mfg Part # WE4M398   WE4M398 inlet

Dryer center outlet thermistor. *Note that it is not in the heating circuit so it likely will not be the cause of a dryer heating problem. It can however effect cycle times or cause a fault if defective. The resistence reading should read around 100 k ohms at room temperature.

Thermistor - Part # 1168531 Mfg Part # WE4M336   WE4M336 outlet

I have this same problem, were you able to fix it? If so, how? I've replaced all the recommended parts except the control board.

Ellen, have you run the dryer with the vent disconnected to see if the symptom persists? A clogged exhaust will cause this problem as well...

Rule the vent out first. If it still acts up see if it works on time dry cycle.
