Bosch d/w SHEM63W55N missing power cord, need to make one

Bob Tinsman

I got a great deal on an open box Bosch d/w SHEM63W55N. It came with the user manual but not the install manual, and I didn't realize that it was missing the cord/junction box until I downloaded the install guide. Now I'm stuck with a big hole under my counter and two dishwashers, and I would like to get the new one under there ASAP.

Fortunately, the prongs look like they fit standard lugs, so I got a dishwasher cord with bare wires. The only thing is that I don't know which is line, neutral, and ground. This would be a simple question for someone who has one of these cords sitting around or who can find the right diagram (i.e. not me).

Can anyone help?

Connect green wire (ground) to metal on unit, white to white and then black to black.

What wires do you have on the dishwasher? If it’s a us market one it should have at least a white and a black wire and very probably a green wire. White is neutral, black is Line (hot or L1) and green should attach to something metal on the dishwasher’s body.

It's a socket with three prongs; link to pic is below (hopefully the forum lets me post it).

It's kind of like the power connector for desktop PC's and other hardware, but smaller.

The prongs are the right size for me to slide on a disconnect terminal, so I got an appliance cord and crimped on three of those.

I figured out how to connect from one of the Bosch DW circuits uploaded here; ground on top, neutral in the middle, hot on the bottom.

The DW fired up and is working fine, so the problem is solved. I should have taken a pic but it was 1 in the morning and I just wanted to get the DW in!

Dishwashers can use a lot of power, I'm with Ed on this one, Get the correct part now and save yourself trouble later.

I've already been on a few of these dishwashers where somebody used a regular power cord or hooked it up to the house wiring directly instead of using the Bosch power cord and it's burnt up and almost caused a house fire.

I humbly bow to your collective experience in the arts of appliantology (btw, is that a Frank Zappa reference?).

Looks like I've gotta wrestle the DW back out and swap out my hacked cord once I get the right one.

Isn't everything a Frank Zappa reference?

Shouldn't be too hard to get the d/w out, remember, you are smarter than it. It'll be much easier than rebuilding your home after the fire.
