Thermador burner valve - 00415500

Recommended Posts

I have a sticking burner valve (not the simmer one) on a Thermador PRG486GDUS. According to Thermador and other parts suppliers these valves are not available. Is there any option for replacing the valve? Can another valve model be modified to fit? Can the old one be rebuilt? I'm not really interested in getting a new range. Thanks.

The old valve probably just needs to be taken apart, cleaned and regreased.

or any brand of gas valve grease you might prefer, may find similar product locally at an old-timey hardware store.

I don't know if you can remove all the knobs and remove the front control panel to get to the valves to do the repair - You might want to check into this before you start.

If you can't remove the front control panel without removing all the burners to gain access you can be in for a major expense in replacement parts.   The brass burner venturi are usually seized into the aluminum orifice holders and have to be cut to remove then they all have to be replaced.   You could end up needing all new burner venturi tubes and all the orifice holders if you aren't able to remove the remaining portion of the cut off venturi tube from the orifice holders.

There is also a safety repair recall on this range:

Call Thermador for free repair regarding the safety recall.

Thanks for the heads up William. Yes. I've been down that path before. I spent a few hours with the dremel removing the venturis with the last rebuild. I appreciate the mention of the recall. I'll give them a call.

You might get lucky if it hasn't been too long since you cut and replaced the venturi tubes the last time, they may come out.

Did you by any chance think to put never-seize on the new brass venturi tubes when you reassembled?   That is what I have planned to do if I have to replace any of these - I don't know if it will last to make them come out for future repairs or not but it sure couldn't hurt any.

It's been about 5 years. Had some bad sparkers, bad simmer module, etc. I used a high temp graphite anti-seize on the the venturis when reassembling. I also had to grind a socket down perfectly flat to grab the venturis. The lip on the venturis is only about 1/16" and every socket in my box wouldn't grab. Only two out of the 6 total didn't need to be dremeled off.
