Subzero 532 overcooling - thermostat replacement?

Pavie

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I have a sub-zero 532 that keeps running almost all the time and freezing milk in the fridge section. Thermostat is set to the highest temperature - I suspect it may be the problem. Any advice - how hard is the thermostat replacement (a link to the service manual would help too)?

Thanks!

the thermostat is relatively easy to change. The new on will come with detailed instructions.

what number is the thermostat set to?

I'll bet you have a much more serious problem than a bad thermostat. Remove the moveable shelves, light bulb cover, light bulb holder bracket and tilt the the back panel (evaporator cover) forward and get a good look at the frost pattern.

What are you referring to - what are you suggesting is the root cause?

Thanks!

A major sealed system issue.

What 'issue' - could you please be more descriptive?  The fridge has a fairly uniform 0.5C - 1.4C temperature throughout the entire interior.

That’s your trouble, these things are designed to only operate in Fahrenheit temperatures.

But seriously, get a look at the evaporator and post a pic if possible

I think AccApp is on to something here.

It is maintaining temp because it is running the compressor longer to compensate for the lack of refrigerant. Which is resulting in some things freezing.

Get that back wall off, snap a pic, and post it on here. There is probably a lot of frost/ice in the upper left hand corner.

Another sign to look for is frost/ice or excessive sweating on the lower portion of the back wall.

Can you explain to me how a properly functioning refrigerator thermostat set at above freezing temps could result in frozen milk? Wouldn't the tstat turn off the compressor whenever the temp dropped below its set temp regardless of the amount of time it took the compressor to get there?

Thanks,

David - Dallas
