All Appliantology tech members are invited to join in this workshop on all things Appliantological.
We have a special session planned for this one. Instead of the usual Show 'n Tell on a technical topic, we're going to post tech sheets in the comments to this Calendar Event (scroll down to see what's posted so far) and ask specific questions that can only be answered by reading the tech sheet. If you at least try to answer the questions beforehand, you'll get a lot more out of it. The tech sheet and the questions are posted in the comments section below.
Your mission, if you should choose to accept it, is to check out the questions for each one and try to answer them ahead of time. Then come to the Dojo to see how well you did!
Who: This workshop is only available to tech members at Appliantology.
When: Saturday, April 27 @10:00 AM Eastern Time.
      Where: Online via Zoom

Wolf R304 Burner Gas Valve Problem- Bonfire

Kon'nichiwa,

I have a Wolf R304 stove running on propane.  3 of 4 burners work fine.  The front left burner works fine on simmer/low.  On medium the outer ring lights and pulses.  When I set the knob to high, it's like a giant yellow bonfire with the flame about 12 inches tall.

When I listen to the gas flow with the igniters powered off on the 3 good burners, it sounds exactly the same.  The bad burner sound like it's releasing crazy amounts of gas.  I'm think the valve is bad.

Thoughts?

Lyle

Sounds like bad or missing burner orifice.

I believe each burner has two an inner and outer. They both need inspected and possibly cleaned or replaced.

So I checked the orifice and all seems good.  I disconnected the gas delivery pipe from the suspect burner and also from a properly working burner. Turning the valves on one at a time, there was an audible difference.  The burner giving me trouble sounds like it is being feed way more gas. I don't about the inner workings of the valves but Wolf valves have 2 outflow lines.  The small one feeds the simmer and main burner while the large diameter one only feeds the main burner.  The valve itself seems to have internal detents for low, medium and high settings.  It makes me think that the internal settings for the high position are defective, if that is possible.

Like 16345ed has said.   It sounds like your having an issue with the burner tube  Orafice.  Swap an orafice very carefully and see if that makes a difference ??   You may just have a bad orafice as ed has mentioned.   You also have not mentioned exactly what you have done to check the orafice.   I also believe if you are having an issue with a valve it will tend to more on the negative side of gas flow more than the positive side
