Kenmore Gas Dryer Model 110.87984110 Timer Issues?

As the title says, a Kenmore Gas Dryer, Model 110.87984110.  Having issues with the dryer sometimes just stopping while running, and other times not wanting to start.  Happens usually on a timed dry sequence.  In both cases, if one simply rotates the timer (forwards or backwards, doesn't seem to matter), the dryer then runs.  No additional pressing of the start button is required - it goes regardless.

Seems like it would be the timer, no?  No issues when on auto dry (that we've noticed), and the dyer comes up to temp and holds it just fine.  Vent is fully clear, (everything was literally cleaned out less than 4 months ago when replacing the door switch - as long as it was apart!) so I don't think we've got any kind of thermal issues going here.

Seem like the right path? 

If so, that would be easy, but it appears the part is no longer made.  How are used ones?

Lots of used on EBay but you are just getting another worn out timer that could have the same or other problems soon.

Your best bet would to be the more expensive one that comes up as the first listing on Ebay for $69.50 - I've purchased timers from this seller before and have had no problems, they have all new contact points installed and a LIFETIME warranty.

Thanks for that advice.  Was hoping there was someone who actually did some refurbishment on these timers! 

We know we are on borrowed time with a nearly 24 year old dryer, but she has been a workhorse and we would hate to have to put it out to pasture prematurely!

With a refurbished timer, (Lifetime warranty), and a little maintenance that dryer will outlast anything on the market today.

All other parts for this dryer should be readily available.

Might need a set of gas valve coils at some point.     Also, make sure to open it up and clean it all out really good at least every two years, the other high failure item on this style of Whirlpool built dryer is the motor caused by lint build-up around the motor causing the shaft bushings to wear out and/or seize up from over heating.
