All Appliantology tech members are invited to join in this workshop on all things Appliantological: bidness, customers, tools, troubleshooting, flavorite brewski, whatever. Webcams and microphones are open and live!
This workshop is also a great time for any students at Master Samurai Tech to bring any and all questions about the coursework. We're happy to walk through any concepts you're having trouble with. Think of it like office hours with your teachers.
If you have a specific appliance problem you'd like us to talk about, post it here! We need a problem statement and a PDF of the tech sheet or schematic so we can all see it on screen share. If you have a PDF that isn't already in the File library here at Appliantology, send it to us by attaching it to the contact form.
Also, follow this Calendar Event so you'll get notified of new posts here. Look for the "Follow" button either at the top of the topic on desktop or below the topic on mobile.

Dead Maytag MFI2569 Fridge

Recommended Posts

Came back from vacation to find the refrigerator dead.  The numbers on the display light up for about 5 seconds every now and then, but nothing happens.

It is 9 years old, it is is (was) noisy,  and the seals are starting to go; I am inclined to buy a new one, but thought I would ask here first.  Thanks

Last night when we got home it was stone dead.  This morning it would flash the display every now and then.  This afternoon it flashed more often and for a bit longer.  When the flashes got to a few seconds, the compressor came on for a second.  Then 5 seconds.  Now it is normal.

What the heck is going on, and can it be saved?

(My wife doesn't care if it can be saved, she just wants a new one.  But my understanding is that they have gotten progessively worse over the years, so maybe she shouldn't.)

What is a DC load loading down board?  When I googled nothing came up.

But something did come up that said it may be necessary to reset after a power outage.  I think we did have a momentary outage while we were away.  Is it possible that I reset it by pushing random buttons when it was stone dead?

It has now been working normally for 2 days. I got the nerve up to turn the water back on, and it is making ice.
