Maytag dishwasher is no cleaning very well especially on the top rack, I cleaned out the trap and grinder, but it doesn't seem to be getting enough water.

The impeller for the pump is a separate piece and may be damaged. That's where I'd start

I started digging deeper and I have determined that no water at all is getting in the dishwasher.  is it possible that the inlet valve is bad?

It could be or it could be clogged. Take supply line off and look for debris.
