If you have a PDF that isn't already in the File library here at Appliantology, send it to us by attaching it to the contact form.
Also, follow this Calendar Event so you'll get notified of new posts here. Look for the "Follow" button either at the top of the topic on desktop or below the topic on mobile.

Whirlpool WMH53520CS-5 Microwave Interlock

We have a Whirlpool Microwave (WMH53520CS-5) that started misbehaving and throwing a “door open/close” error. One of the door switches seems to be the most common problems.

I bought a full kit (W11244494) that has the switches and cams thinking it would be a bit easier to diagnose and install.

Well, l the old has three switches and the new one has four.  The instructions that were included are, to me, tough to understand.

I can post pictures, but I’m hoping that someone has done this before and can walk me through on how exactly the wires should be attached. Naturally, I’m open to questions.

I have it disassembled and all I need to know is how to make the connections.

There is an orange wire that comes of the primary door switch and attaches to the new 4th switch. You just let it dangle while you deal with the new primary and monitor switches. I believe its the common wire on the old primary that goes to the new piggyback terminal. The rest is just one wire at a time then add the orange wire to the new 4th switch. Make note of how they call these switches out. New primary is on the upper inter lock on the side with the spring.

Read through the directions a couple more times. It took me a minute to puzzle through the first time. The trick is knowing which switch is which. (Say that three times fast)
